How to Choose an Online Quran Teacher

The three formats you will meet online

• Recorded courses and apps: videos your child watches alone. Cheap and convenient, but nobody hears your child read, so mistakes become habits.
• Group online classes: several students share one teacher. Social and affordable, but the teacher cannot listen to every child in every lesson.
• Live one-to-one classes: one instructor, one student, every lesson. The teacher hears every letter your child reads and corrects it immediately — the only format where correction is guaranteed.

Twelve questions to ask before enrolling

Message or call the academy and ask for clear, written answers:

• 1. Who exactly will teach my child, and for how long has that instructor taught the Quran?
• 2. Will the same instructor teach every lesson, or can the teacher change without warning?
• 3. Is the class live on a video call, or partly pre-recorded?
• 4. How does the teacher correct pronunciation (makhraj) during the lesson?
• 5. What book or syllabus will we follow, from the first lesson to fluency?
• 6. How long is each lesson, and how many lessons are recommended each week?
• 7. In which language are explanations given? (Our lessons: easy English and Urdu.)
• 8. Can I observe or sit near the lesson, especially for a young child?
• 9. How is progress reported to parents, and how often?
• 10. What happens if we miss a day or need to change the time?
• 11. Is there a free trial, and what exactly does it include?
• 12. What is the full fee, how is it paid, and what is the refund policy?

A serious academy answers all twelve happily. Evasion on any of them is itself an answer.

Warning signs to walk away from

• A guarantee of fluency “in three months” regardless of the student.
• No free trial, or a trial that turns out to be a recorded video.
• A different teacher at every lesson and no named contact for parents.
• Pressure to pay a full course fee before meeting the teacher.
• No clear syllabus or book, so progress cannot be measured.
• Vague answers about the teacher’s background or the academy’s location.

What a good trial lesson tells you

In one trial lesson you can judge most of what matters: the teacher’s warmth and patience, the way mistakes are corrected, the quality of the connection, and whether the child or adult learner feels at ease.
